i'd like to start of with saying that singapore is considered a developing country, not a fully developed country, as compared to countries like America, Europe, Japan. (ACCORDING TO MISS FLORENCE CHAN) . I will tell what one of the hindrance factors is that is preventing us from achieving the title of DEVELOPED country.

Here are some stats, people who are rather patriotic will find that you will have this really nice feeling running through you right after you read this.

Singapore, According to the quality-of-life index assembled by the Economix Intelligence Unit, Singapore has the highest standard of living in Asia, and is ranked 11th in the world. Measured by GDP per capita, Singapore is the 22nd wealthiest country. The geographically small nation has a foreign reserve of S$197b (US$119b).

In the United Nations Human Development Index, Singapore holds the 25th place, behind only Japan, Hong Kong, and Israel in Asia.

Considering the fact that the only resource we have is Manpower and we depend solely on the export industry, this is indeed a huge achievement.

Hopefully this explains why foreign pupils choose our country to study in,and not countries like Japan, Israel and Hong Kong, even though they are placed higher in ranking in the Human Development Index.


Alright, you're probably wondering why we arent placed higher than countires like israel, one factor is probably because of how dependant our economy is on tourism and export from other countries. countries like israel have high Flying home grown Factories, they export their materials and goods to other countries.

One thing that caught my eye, is that the country's courtesy also plays a part in determining whther or not we are a developing country, or a developed country. THIS IS WHERE WE FALL SHORT. (believe it or not) Okay,why am i mentioning this? you will soon find out.

Look at Japan, everything they say, comes with a bow (an act of courtesy). In Thailand, (i have a thai aunt, and a thai cousin, my uncle married a thai woman) they always clasp their hands together and greet you.(sawadeekap/kaa) Over here in Singapore however, we are too busy trying to become modernised, and try to fit into the description,that Americans would probably find "cool", we forget our roots, our culture, and we try our best to sound as american as possible. we have no brains of our own, we follow the trends and fashion statements shown in foreign films(america,europe,uk). IN other words, we have forgotten a basic principle of life,courtesy.

So...whats my point? There is no point is being ranked highest in this and that, when we simply cannot even be polite to one another. Why am i upset? Its because of this very fact that i am now mp3less.

yesterday, i was on the train, back home from the docs. when i was etering the train from raffles place, this chinese lady, being kiasu an all, rammed against my collarbone and stomped on my toe, while trying to exit the train. I am not the type of person who would stand smack in the middle of the exit/entrance way, i was kindly waiting by the side, waiting for the people inside to exit, once the exit was clear, i decided it was safe to go in.

When i took a step i, this lady, carrying a louis vuitton handbag (fake), with flashing red varnished nails, and killer heels, in her forties, rammed against my collarbone, and stomped on my toe. AND GUESS WHAT? SHE DIDNT SAY SORRY!!!!!!! In pain, i had actually dropped my mp3 player, and now it isnt working, i press the reset button and start it over, but it remains jammed. and i dont have a back up of all the 850 songs inside (only a few are in my computer, since the carsh), i am seriously upset. nd to top it all off, i fell sick that day, the stupid germs from her body got to me, i dont know. but thanks to this stupid assjack, i am DEVASTATED(drama much).those who know me well, know that i do not go anywhere without my mp3. it has to always be with me, i am what you call a serious soundaholic, a music maniac.

i dont think thre's any hope of salvaging my baby, my guarantee is so over. sigh. I WANT MY SUGAR DADDY NOW.
